What Is the HoneyBee TreeHouse Children’s Anthology?

The HoneyBee TreeHouse Children’s Anthology is a celebratory, professionally published collection showcasing original short stories written by children and based on the characters in the stories created by Dr. Nina M. Kelly. A child must read and know the selected story in order to make a submission.

The first selected story is HoneyBee TreeHouse by Nina M. Kelly.

The deadline for submission is November 15th, 2025.

Designed to nurture young imaginations and give every child a genuine author’s experience, our anthology brings together the most creative voices from across the world in a wonderful keepsake.

Dr. Nina Kelly, is the founder of The Whimsy Wood Tales, LLC & HoneyBee TreeHouse, LLC.   She has woven  her deep understanding of mythic structure into every aspect of the HoneyBee TreeHouse and its stories.  She believes that “life is story,” and that by guiding children through the same narrative patterns that underlie ancient myths; from the hero’s journey to the trickster’s reversal, she can help young authors tap into their inherent creativity and find their own voices.

What is the Honey Bee Tree House Children’s Anthology?

A professionally published book featuring original short stories by children ages 5–8 and 9–12, guided and curated by mythologist Dr. Nina M. Kelly. It’s designed to give every participant an authentic author’s experience—from creative prompts through publication and public readings

Who can submit a story?

Any child in one of our three categories:

  • Ages 5–8

  • Ages 9–13

  • Ages 14-18

How do I help my child submit a story?

  1. Complete the cover sheet and obtain parental/guardian consent.

  2. Review the Submission Package (includes guidelines, templates, and checklist).

  3. Work with your child to write and format your story following the provided instructions.

  4. Upload your PDF into our portal by the stated deadline. deadline.

What is the approximate time commitment?

Here’s all it takes:

⏰ 8 minutes to read HoneyBee TreeHouse aloud

🎨 5 minutes to pick a favorite character or image

💡 10–15 minutes to brainstorm a story idea

✍️ 30 minutes to write the story (or split into two fun sittings)

📄 15 minutes to finalize and submit

➡️ Just 1–1.5 hours total… and you’ll give your child the confidence to say: “I’m a published author!” 🌟

Is there an entry fee?

Yes. An entry fee helps cover administrative & editorial work, printing, and shipping.

The entry fees are as follows:

$50 submission only

$75 submission and author signed copy of the required book.

Does my child have to have read the book in order write a submission?

Yes as the submission must be based on a character in the designated book. You can grab your own copy in whichever way is most convenient for you:

  • Author-Signed Edition  – Order a personalized, signed hardcover directly from our website.

  • Online Retailers  – Find both print and e-book editions on Amazon.

  • Local Bookstores  – Support your community: ask your favorite independent shop to stock it (they’ll often be happy to order it for you).

  • Your Library  – Check it out for free! If your library doesn’t yet carry the book, please ask the librarian to purchase or request it through interlibrary loan—every request helps bring more stories to young readers everywhere.

What happens after I submit my child's entry?

  • You’ll receive an email confirmation (or a mailed postcard if sent by post).

  • Every author—published or not—earns a Certificate of Completion.

  • We provide professional feedback on every submission within 4–6 weeks of the deadline

Will my story definitely be published?

Due to limited space, not every story can be included. However:

  • All entrants receive thoughtful editorial feedback.

  • Selected authors see their work in print, receive a hardcover copy, and enjoy special program benefits.

How will I know if my story is selected?

You’ll receive an acceptance email (or letter) announcing publication, along with details on next steps, digital assets, and event invitations.

When is the deadline?

Deadlines are posted each year in the Submission Package. Please check the current PDF for the exact date, and plan to submit at least one week early to avoid technical issues.

How does this help with college applications?

Becoming a published author before age 13 demonstrates initiative, creativity, and project-completion skills—qualities colleges value in their holistic review process. You’ll also gain memorable material for essays, interviews, and résumé entries.
